Finding the Perfect Wedding Reception Venue

August 23, 2016

Choosing your wedding venue is one of the most important and exciting decisions you will make when planning a wedding. It is also one of the first decisions you will need to make. Deciding on your perfect venue may seem like a bittersweet task as your venue will set the tone for your wedding, but once chosen is the most exhilarating feeling!
Before finalizing your venue selection, there are many pieces to take into consideration. Location, budget and capacity are the first obvious reasons. Beyond the basics, here are some of the main things you should keep in mind before signing the contract!
  • Emotional Connection – The first thing you should consider is the emotional connection you have with the venue. Many people choose their space because of how it can make you feel. When I chose my wedding venue, I felt so incredibly happy and at peace in the space. My husband and I couldn’t imagine being married anywhere else and you should too!
  • A Visual Backdrop – When looking at venues, its important to keep in mind how this venue may translate into memories and photos. Some venues are naturally gorgeous and don’t need a lot of added décor and design elements while others are a blank canvas where you can create anything you would like to see in the space. And with these differences it is important to keep in mind, which suits your personality (and budget).
  • Logistics – Weddings can be logistically challenging and time consuming; of course in the end, it is worth every minute! Knowing the logistical ins and outs of your venue will make planning much easier. Being aware of your venues included décor and table items, vendor restrictions, in/out timing, nearby hotels for guests and of course, hidden costs will make planning much easier.
  • Ceremony Location – One thing I often see as a wedding planner is for couples to use the same grounds for both their ceremony and reception. This can be a great option! To find a venue that will host both is becoming easier and easier and something to strongly consider! If you are having any events outdoors, make sure you have a back up plan for different weather elements (rain, heat, cold). Consider how this location may tie into the religious elements of your ceremony.  For offsite ceremonies such as churches or gardens, keep in mind transportation and timing between events and venue locations.
  • Be Our Guest! – Although your wedding day is about you, you also have to take your guests into consideration. After all, you are serving as a host in a sense.  Ask yourselves these questions: how will ‘out of town’ guests be accommodated? Perhaps you will need look at local hotels or providing transportation. How will the air-conditioned hall or hot barn affect guests? Are there elderly or disabled guests we need to consider? If there are some challenges, that is okay, just make sure you are helping to provide an enjoyable experience for all involved!!
The best part about hiring a wedding planner is that we know all the best places, the logistical perks and challenges about many venues and we know what to look for. After learning about each couple, we can help steer you to your perfect wedding venue. And if you have already found your perfect place, we can navigate through the logistics of working with your venue for you. Best wishes in your search!
